CPHS Softball: Slow-Pitch season ends in shootout at No. 3 Southmoore

The Charles Page High School Slow-Pitch Softball team ended their season Tuesday afternoon in Moore, falling 11-0 and 14-9 to Class 6A No. 3 ranked Southmoore in a three-game series for the Regional Championship.

The Lady Sandites ended the year ranked No. 17 in Class 6A with a 9-12 record and several quality wins. 

Southmoore jumped out to an early lead with six hits and a walk for a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sand Springs stranded two runners in the top of the second and the Sabercats came in to take a 7-0 lead with home runs from Mikayla Smith and Karli Petty. 

Sabrina Usher scored Elizabeth Luttrell on a homer to get Sand Springs on the board in the top of the third, then Analisia Aguilar sent one over the center field fence for Southmoore.

The Sandites stranded two more in the top of the fourth and Kylie Janzen scored two on a homer in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-2.

Makenna Skaggs singled to score Kimi Presnell in the top of the fifth, then came in on a double from Jensen Arnold. The Sandites then stranded two Sabercat runners in the bottom of the inning for their only shutout inning of the game. 

In the top of the sixth Jacie Taber reached on an error, and Felicity Horn and Cameron Clemons singled to load the bases. Luttrell, Presnell, Usher, and Skaggs all batted in runs to close the game to a one run deficit at 10-9.

The Sabercats were ready with a melee of their own in the bottom of the inning, making it 14-9 with a home run from Savannah Brewer. Sand Springs recorded three hits in the top of the seventh but stranded two runners to end the game.

CPHS Softball: Sandites run-rule Norman 13-1 at Regional Playoffs

MOORE - Kimi Presnell, Sabrina Usher, and Jensen Arnold each hit home runs Wednesday afternoon to advance the Sandites to the second round of the playoffs.

The Class 6A No. 17 ranked Charles Page High School slow-pitch softball team (9-11) throttled Norman High School (5-12) with a 13-1 run rule-victory in only four innings.

The Lady Tigers came ready to play with two singles and a walk to load the bases in the top of the first. Sara Massey scored on a sacrifice fly and Triniti Crump walked to reload, but Arnold struck out Raven Fulks to strand three.

Arnold's solo homer tied it up in the bottom of the second, and the Sandites took the lead in the third. Kimi Presnell doubled in Drew Hawkins, then Usher's homer scored Presnell and Jacie Taber for a 5-1 advantage.

Sand Springs scattered seven hits for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Taber batted in Madelyn Blair. Felicity Horn and Hawkins scored on an error, then Taber came in on Presnell's homer. Makenna Skaggs singled in Usher for the ten-run lead, then scored on Arnold's second homer to seal the victory. 

Sand Springs wasn't so fortunate in their next game, taking on No. 3 Southmoore (23-5) who topped Norman 12-0 in game two to eliminate the Tigers from contention. The Sabercats shutout Sand Springs 11-0 in game one of a three-game series.

The host team out-hit the Sandites fourteen to five with home runs from Karli Petty, Hannah Seals, and Mikayla Smith. 

Southmoore scored four in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth for the run-rule victory. 

Usher doubled in the first, Luttrell singled in the third, and Arnold singled in the fourth. Cameron Clemons and Hawkins singled in the fifth, but Hawkins was outed on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Sand Springs will now have to beat the Sabercats in back-to-back games to punch their ticket to State. 

Sand Springs Softball grads making waves at college level

CPHS graduate Sydney Pennington is one of the leading batters for Oklahoma State University this season.

Charles Page High School Class of 2017 graduate Sydney Pennington has been tearing it up this season as a true freshman at Oklahoma State University. The No. 27 ranked Cowgirls (28-11) are currently third in the Big 12 with a 7-2 record.

Pennington holds a .306 batting average, .515 slugging average, and .342 on-base percentage. She has recorded 41 hits, seven doubles, seven home runs, 22 runs, and 35 RBI on 134 at-bats and holds a .961 fielding percentage as an infielder. She is fifth in the Big 12 in RBI. Mallory Goodman (2014) has also seen one at-bat with the Cowgirls.

Jessica Collins (2017) has played thirty games this year at Connors State College (23-9). The Cowgirls are 10-8 in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference. The freshman is .411 at the plate with 37 hits, seven doubles, a team-high seven home runs, 21 runs, and a team-high 29 RBI on ninety at-bats. She has pitched four innings and holds a 3.5 ERA, and is .909 in the field.

Stella Millican (2016) has seen action in nineteen games this season with Mid American Christian University. The Evangels are 23-9 overall and fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference with an 8-6 record. The sophomore is .300 at the plate with nine hits, three doubles, four RBI, and four runs on thirty at-bats. She is .971 in the field, alternating between catcher and first base. 

Kennedy "Goose" Salyers (2016) has played 42 games this year at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (26-17). The Savage Storm is currently third in the Great American Conference with a 20-10 record. Salyers is batting .239 with 28 hits, four doubles, one triple, sixteen runs, and thirteen RBI on 117 at-bats. She holds a .913 fielding percentage as an outfielder.

Jessica Schuler (2016) has played all 43 games this season at Northeastern State University (25-18). The RiverHawks are 11-7 for sixth place in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association standings. Schuler is .289 at the plate with 39 hits, eight doubles, nine home runs, fifteen runs, and a team-high 35 RBI on 135 at-bats. She is a perfect 1.00 in the field as a first baseman. 

CPHS Senior Destanie Garrett is signed with Southwestern Christian University for the upcoming school year. Three juniors have made verbal commitments. Kimi Presnell committed to Rogers State University, Cameron Clemons committed to Southern Arkansas University, and Jacie Taber committed to the University of Northern Iowa.

CPHS Softball: Usher and Arnold hit two home runs apiece, beat Kellyville 13-0

The Class 6A No. 14 ranked Charles Page High School Slow Pitch Softball Team (4-6) avenged a season opening loss to 5A No. 8 Kellyville (12-7) Monday evening, ravaging the Ponies 13-0 in only three innings.

Sabrina Usher hit a solo home run in the first inning and Madelyn Blair singled to score Jensen Arnold for a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning Cameron Clemons doubled to score Felicity Horn, then Jacie Taber scored Clemons and Usher on a home run. Jensen Arnold followed it up with another home run to make it 7-0.

In the bottom of the third Kimi Presnell hit a double to score Makenna Skaggs, Clemons scored on an error, and Usher hit another home run to score Presnell. Taber reached on an error and scored on a second home run from Arnold for the run-rule victory. 

The Lady Sandite junior varsity squad won their game 5-2 over Kellyville.

Sand Springs Softball will return to action Tuesday morning at the Jenks Festival. They will play No. 3 Southmoore (14-3) at 10:00 a.m. and No. 11 Tahlequah (8-5) at 2:00 p.m.

CPHS Softball: Sandites go 1-2 at Kellyville Festival, run-rule Okmulgee 13-0 in two innings

The Class 6A No. 13 ranked Charles Page High School slow pitch softball team (1-2) made their season debut last week, placing third out of four teams at the Kellyville Festival.

The Lady Sandites fell 15-11 to 5A No. 7 Kellyville (8-2) and 12-8 to 5A No. 2 Heavener (7-0) before winning a 13-0 shutout against Okmulgee (0-5) on Tuesday. 

Felicity Horn doubled to score Madelyn Blair, Rachel Jones scored Makenna Skaggs, and Kimi Presnell scored Horn in the second inning against Kellyville. Presnell hit a home run to score Jensen Arnold in the fourth, then Arnold hit a homer in the top of the fifth. Horn doubled again to score Skaggs in the fifth and the girls went runless in the sixth. Skaggs singled in Arnold and Elizabeth Luttrell in the seventh, but it wasn't enough and the Ponies prevailed 15-11. 

Heavener worked up a 9-0 lead with three home runs by the time the Sandites got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Jacie Taber hit a solo home run to kick things off, then Sabrina Usher scored Kinsey Skaggs and Presnell in the fifth. Luttrell scored Usher and Madelyn Blair scored Drew Hawkins to cut the gap to 9-5. Heavener hit two more homers for a seven-run lead, and it came down to the bottom of the seventh. Arnold homered in Taber, then Luttrell hit a homer for the final run of the game before the comeback attempt fell short.

The final round of the festival was a slaughter as Okmulgee fell 14-0 in only two innings. Presnell and Usher hit back-to-back home runs on the first two pitches of the game to set the tone for the battle to come. Arnold doubled in Taber, Jones walked on loaded bases, Hawkins scored two on a single, then Mackenzie Bechtold scored a sacrifice for a 7-0 lead. In the second inning Arnold scored a 3RBI homer to put the game in double-digits, Bechtold and Taber batted in runs, and the Bulldogs went runless in the second inning to end the game by run-rule. 

CPHS Softball: Destanie Garrett signs with Southwestern Christian University

Charles Page High School senior softballer Destanie Garrett signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to play collegiate ball for Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

The Eagles are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). They also compete in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Division One. 

The Southwestern softball team went 11-39 in the 2016-2017 season and finished last in the SAC. They are led by seventh-season head coach Kent Williams who has amassed an 80-209 record in his time with the program.
