CPHS Track: Boys place second at Owasso with several champions

The Charles Page High School track and field teams made a strong showing at the Owasso High School Invitational this past weekend, crowning champions in four events. The boys' team came in second place and the Lady Sandites took fifth, while both teams from the host school brought home the gold.

The boys' relay teams have been excelling this season, and Saturday was no exception. They placed fourth in the 400-meter relay in 43.37 seconds, their fastest time in many years, and won the 3200 in 8:26.95 with a ten-second lead on Owasso. The boys got to try their legs out at some new competitions as well, placing third in the 1600 medley and second in the 4000 medley.

Junior standout Jacob Smith shaved six seconds off his personal record in the 3200, winning his first gold medal in 10:26.59. Danny Murray also topped his previous best, finishing fifth in 11:03.28.

Defending State Champion Aden Baughman won his second-straight first-place medal in the 800, finishing in 1:56.61, closely followed by runner-up Jaelyn Jackson in 2:03.3.

Joel Mackey won his second 200-meter run dash of the year in 22.51 seconds, nearly a full second ahead of the runner-up. Freshman up-and-comer Joseph Mattison came in fourth in 23.86, just a hundredth of a second shy of his personal best. Mattison also placed ninth in the long jump with a personal best 18'03.00".

Mason Shipman came in runner-up in both hurdle distances, finishing the 110 in 17.06 seconds and the 300 in 42.89. Alex Newport set a new personal best in the 300, finishing tenth in 48.58.

Ian Baustert came in runner-up in the 1600 with a 4:44.6 performance, immediately followed by Nelson Yazzie with a personal record 4:51.36.

Elizabeth Watts placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a career-best 52.99 performance.

Tiqvah Soap placed third in the 400 dash in 1:07.46. Adrianna Tapp came in fifth in the 200 meter dash, and sixth in the 100 dash and hurdles.

Sandite of the Week: Colton Washington takes gold at Stillwater track meet

By: Scott Emigh, Editor-in-Chief

Charles Page High School Long Jumper Colton Washington was selected as Sandite of the Week for his outstanding performance at the Stillwater Pioneer Relays this past week.

Washington set a personal-best at 21'07.50", beating the runner-up by 1'00.75". His previous best was 20'07.00 at last year's Frontier Valley Conference meet.

Breaking the 20' mark at all is impressive. Last year he placed tenth in Regionals with a distance of 19'09.50. His Stillwater performance would have placed him second in last year's Regionals or eighth in the State Championship.
