Youth Wrestling: Sand Springs Team Big wins Rough Neck Rumble

The Sand Springs Team Big wrestling club won the Rough Neck Rumble at the Cox Business Center this past weekend with five champions and five runners-up. The event was part of the USA Wrestling Tour of America Folkstyle competition.

The Sandites placed fourth in Bantam, second in Novice, and first in Middle School for an overall score of 179 points to lead Mission Arlington at 143.

Middle School

Christian Forbes (21-3) won the ninety-pound bracket with a pair of decisions, defeating Aspen Jolly 9-1 and Camden Padgett 2-1.

Kaden Glass (20-1) won the 250-pound bracket, pinning Tyler Rich in fifteen seconds and winning a 1-0 decision against teammate Caleb Phillips (5-2). Phillips pinned Rich in 42 seconds for second place.

Clayton Giddens-Buttram (31-2) won at 71 pounds, pinning Dylan Bratt in 2:20 and defeating Muhammad Badery 7-0.

Abraham Flores (17-6) came in runner-up at 114 pounds, majoring Shane Lovejoy 12-0, but falling 3-1 to Ayden Little.

Ethan White (15-11) placed second at 130 pounds. He pinned Kasey Griffin in 2:11 and defeated Alec Strange 3-0 before falling 2-0 to Gavin Thammavongsa in the finals. In the second-place challenge match he defended his silver with a 5-0 decision over Braxton Bacon.

Kaiser Simpson (2-1) placed second at 87, defeating William Heger 3-0 and Joseph Liescheski 1-0 before falling to Tyler Kaahanui.

Intermediate

Will Meredith (9-4) won the 49-pound bracket easily, pinning Noah Back in 23 seconds, then defeating Dawson Back 7-0 and Roman Tyler 7-1.

Kasen McAffrey (18-4) placed third at 71 pounds. He pinned Caiden Estrada in 1:32 before falling to Knox Karnowski, then pinned Kaden Lewis in 0:34 and Estrada in 0:36 in consolation.

Novice

Grady Mittasch (20-6) won the 74-pound bracket, defeating Destin Parker 13-8 and Hayden Wright 1-0, and pinning Isaiah Jones in 3:39.

Adrian Flores (5-14) came in runner-up at 117 pounds, pinning Titan Hix and Frankie Esparza, but falling to Aiden Cooley.

Jaxon Trotter (10-9) placed third at 98 pounds. He was pinned by Brayden Dougherty in the opening round, but snapped back with a 3-1 decision over Waylen Morrison and an 11-0 major decision against Tristan Thompsonto win the consolation bracket. In the second-place challenge match he fell 12-2 to Ritson Meyer.
