New Sand Springs Whataburger to Open in Fall

After teasing its citizens on Wednesday with a Facebook post of just the Whataburger logo, the City of Sand Springs officially announced the arrival of the fast food franchise with a press release on Thursday.

According to marketing firm Williams/Crawford & Associates, the Whataburger franchisee WAB Venture Inc. closed Wednesday on a parcel in the Sheffield Crossing development at 512 Morrow Road. It will be the thirteenth Whataburger location operated by WAB Venture and is expected to open in the fall of this year.

The restaurant will located at the corner of Huskey Avenue and Morrow Road, between the Billie A. Hall Public Safety Center and the Tropical Smoothie Cafe, across the street from Walmart.

“We have witnessed the positive response from communities upon the arrival of a Whataburger, and we are excited to introduce the brand’s fresh, bold flavors to our new Guests in Sand Springs,” said WAB Venture Director of Operations Joe Martin.

“We have carefully chosen a prime location and are planning a restaurant that will embody the spirit of Sand Springs and provide the community with a place they can call their own.”

Last week, WAB opened its newest location in Pryor, northeast of Tulsa. WAB employs at least 100 people at all its locations and will likely need 100 to operate the restaurant in Sand Springs.

Martin announced that the recruitment process for the local restaurant will commence in the following weeks. The establishment will require Managers, Team Leaders, and Team Members.

Whataburger is based in San Antonio, Texas and opened its first location in 1950. It was family owned by the family of founder Harmon Dobson until 2019 when Chicago-based BDT Capital Partners acquired a majority interest.

The Whataburger empire reports more than $3 billion in annual sales across 15 states. The company celebrated the opening of its 1000th location in January.

Most Whataburger restaurants are open 24/7, 364 days a year, only closing on Christmas.
