Lady Sandite Wrestling Wins First-Ever Dual 36-24 at Oologah

The Charles Page High School girls wrestling team (1-0) won its first dual ever Tuesday night, winning six out of ten matches for a 36-24 victory against Oologah-Talala (0-1).

Bailey Copeland and Ambrielle Chambers kicked the dual off at 105 pounds, each pinning Samantha Mayfield for a 12-0 start.

Trinity Owens pinned Emerica Wells in 21 seconds at 115 pounds and Laila Mirza pinned Payton Berglund in 56 seconds at 120 to make it 24-0.

Macy Gorczynski got the Mustangs on the board with a pin of Gracie Gifford at 125 pounds but Audree Robinson responded with a pin of Berglund in 1:38.

Jayden Ellenburg fell in the second period of the 140-pound match to Yara Lester but Kelsi Hilton pinned Celtriya Xiong in 1:19 for a 36-12 advantage at 145.

That would be the last victory for Sand Springs as Jaylee Sanders and Piper Morton won a pair of falls at 155 pounds against Tessa Urrey.

The Lady Sandites are ranked No. 15 out of 70 teams in Class 6A this week and also placed 16th at the Jay Border Wars this past weekend.

Mirza placed sixth at 120 with two falls, Tyreyalle Davis placed sixth at 135 with four falls, and Hilton placed fourth at 140 with two falls.

Sand Springs will return to action Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with a double-header dual at 5A No. 11 Skiatook (0-0) against the Bulldogs and Glenpool (1-1).
