CPHS Soccer: Undefeated boys win Edison Tournament, improve to 6-0

The Charles Page High School boys’ soccer team is off to its best start of the decade, riding a six-game win streak to start the season. They won the Edison Green and White Tournament this past weekend and defeated East Central 2-0 Tuesday at the Eastside Sports Complex.

Four of the Sandites’ six wins have come by shutout and they have outscored their opponents 20-2 thus far.

On Thursday they won 2-1 against Nathan Hale and 3-1 against the Jenks Junior Varsity Team No. 2. Fernando Saldana and Luke Jeffus were the only scorers in those two games. They scored one apiece against Hale, and Saldana had a brace against the Trojans.

In the Saturday finals they took on the Jenks Junior Varsity Team No. 1 and prevailed 1-0 with Saldana scoring the lone goal. Don’t let the “junior varsity” tag fool you. The Trojan varsity is ranked eighth in the nation by USA Today, and their JV unit is enough to give most Oklahoma teams a run for their money.

On Tuesday they prevailed 2-0 against a previously undefeated East Central (3-1). Fernando Saldana made an impressive run at goal seven minutes into the match, but the Cardinal goalie had an equally impressive save. Instead it was Gustavo Saldana with the first goal of the night with an assist from Kaleb Brooks. Jack Bratcher netted the second goal in the seventeenth minute, and the teams went scoreless for the remainder of the match.

The Sandites have already scored as many goals in six games as they scored in their first ten games last season. They will play their last non-district match Thursday at 8:00 p.m. when they host Enid (3-2).
