CPHS Baseball: Sandites fall 6-1 to Bixby, Burks scores lone run

After run-ruling their first two opponents by a combined 30-1, the Charles Page High School varsity baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Monday, 6-1 to Bixby (5-1).

The Spartans took the lead right out of the gate, loading the bases in the bottom of the first with two singles and a walk before Jaxson Crull scored on a line out from Blake Nichols.

Sebastian Cassidy (0-1) threw two strikeouts to strand two in the first, but the Spartans went right back to work in the second inning. Barrett Daniel and Kyle Bass hit singles, Daniel scored on a ground out from Mason Williams, and Bass scored on a triple from Blake Williams for the 3-0 lead.

Malachi Burks scored the lone Sandite run in the top of the fourth, coming in on a single from Cale Savage.

Bixby loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fourth with two singles and a walk, then walked in free run and scored another on a sacrifice fly. Seth Villines brought the inning to an end with a double play to first.

The Spartans tacked on one last run in the bottom of the sixth with Luke Creeger singling in Blake Williams on loaded bases. Tyler Ash caught a line drive to center field to strand three runners.

Savage and Kyler Copeland were the only Sandites to land hits, and Copeland had a double in the fifth but was left stranded.

Cassidy received the loss on the mound, throwing eight hits, three strikeouts, and two walks in three innings. John Miller pitched three hits, three strikeouts, and three walks in two and two-thirds innings. Michael Miller pitched a third of an inning and tossed one hit.

Sand Springs baseball will return to action Thursday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m. when they travel to a non-district battle with Bartlesville (1-5).
