Oklahoma Wrestling: Week Three High School 6A Team Rankings

The latest team rankings have been released by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association and the defending State Champions from Choctaw have retained the number one spot by a narrow margin over the State Runners-Up from Sand Springs in the dual rankings, but the Sandites have overtaken the top spot in the tournament rankings after beating out Choctaw at the Perry Tournament of Champions this past weekend.

No. 1 Dual, No. 2 Tournament Choctaw Yellowjackets

Last year's State and Dual State Champions (1-0) won their season opener with a convincing 60-15 victory over No. 14 Deer Creek (0-1) and took second place at the Perry Tournament with three champioins and four finalists. The Yellowjackets have twelve ranked wrestlers, seven State Qualifiers, all of whom placed, and two State Champions. Colt Newton (113), Jaryn Curry (160), and Easton Rendleman (182) all hold the number one rankings in their divisions. Choctaw received 15 first-place votes in the dual rankings and 7 in the tournament rankings.

Choctaw will return to action this weekend at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

No. 2 Dual, No. 1 Tournament Sand Springs Sandites

Last year's Dual State Runners-Up (1-0) won their season opener 62-6 over Owasso (1-1), winning every match and forfeiting one weight class. They followed it up with a dominating performance at Perry with three champions and five finalsts. The Sandites have twelve ranked wrestlers, ten State Qualifiers, seven placers, and one State Champion. Daton Fix (132), Beau Bratcher (145), Zane Basma (170), and Delvin Jordan (220) all hold the number one rankings in their divisions. Basma scored an 8-2 victory over State Champion Zane Coleman to earn the top spot this weekend. The Sandites received 13 first-place votes in the dual rankings and 20 in the tournament rankings.

Sand Springs will return to action this weekend at the Kansas City Stampede.

No. 3 Dual/Tournament Broken Arrow Tigers

Last year's State Runners-Up (2-0) completely shut down Muskogee (0-3) 73-0 in their season opener, then topped Akron, Ohio's Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School 31-24 on their way to the Walsh Jesuit Ironman tournament, where they placed 23rd. They previously took second place at the Gardner Edgerton Invitational. The Tigers have eleven ranked wrestlers, seven State Qualifiers, five placers, and two State Champions. Zach Marcheselli (195) holds the number one ranking in his division. The Tigers received one first-place vote in the tournament rankings.

The Tigers will return to action in the new year when they take on Choctaw and 4A No. 1 Tuttle (3-0) both on January 5th. 

No. 4 Dual/Tournament Edmond North Huskies

The Huskies (2-0) started off the season with solid competition, scoring a 47-24 victory over No. 9 Mustang (1-1) and a 42-18 victory over No. 11 Deer Creek (1-3) before taking second place at the Mid America Nationals in Enid. They have seven ranked wrestlers, three State Qualifiers, and two State Champions. Paxton Rosen (120) holds the number one ranking in his division.

Edmond North will compete this weekend at the Kansas City Stampede.

No. 5 Dual/Tournament Yukon Millers

Yukon (2-0) scored some quality wins to start their season, topping 5A No. 6 Piedmont (1-2) 43-27 and No. 15 Edmond Memorial (0-2) 38-34, then placed sixth at Perry behind Sand Springs, Choctaw, and Ponca City, with five finalists. The Millers have six ranked wrestlers, three State Qualifiers, two placers, and one State Champion. Jaxen Gilmore (138) holds the number one ranking in his division. 

The Millers will have another tough challenge Tuesday when they travel to No. 10 Mustang.

No. 6 Dual/Tournament Westmoore Jaguars

The Jags (2-0) started the season with a 42-31 win over No. 11 Deer Creek (1-3) and a close 36-34 win at No. 10 Norman North (1-2). They took seventh place at the Mid America Nationals behind Edmond North and Mustang. Westmoore has eight ranked wrestlers, six State Qualifiers, two placers, and one State Champion. 

Westmoore will take on unranked Enid (0-3) Tuesday.

No. 7 Dual, No. 10 Tournament Union Redskins

The Redskins (0-0) have yet to wrestle their first dual of the season, and will do so Tuesday night when they host 5A No. 6 Claremore (1-0) and No. 15 Owasso (1-1). They competed this weekend at Perry and came in fourteenth. Union has nine ranked wrestlers and one State Qualifier. 

No. 8 Dual, No. 7 Tournament Ponca City Wildcats

Ponca City (2-0) kicked off the new year with a bang, hammering 3A No. 5 Blackwell (0-2) 57-21 and unranked Enid (0-3) 61-15, then took fifth place at Perry as the third-highest performing team from 6A with eight placers. The Wildcats have seven ranked wrestlers and three State Qualifiers. 

Ponca will travel to unranked Sapulpa Tuesday, then will compete at the Kansas City Stampede this weekend.

No. 9 Dual, No. 8 Tournament Stillwater Pioneers

Stillwater (1-1) scored an impressive 48-27 victory over 5A No. 5 Shawnee (1-1), but fell 49-18 to 3A No. 1 Perry (2-0). They placed tenth at the Perry Tournament with three placers and one finalist. The Pioneers have five ranked wrestlers, five State Qualifiers, four placers, and one Champion. 

The Pioneers will host unranked Deer Creek (1-3) Tuesday, then will travel to the Kansas City Stampede.

No. 10 Dual, No. 9 Tournament Mustang Broncos

Mustang (1-1) bit off more than they could chew in their season opener, falling 47-24 to No. 4 Edmond North (2-0), but rebounded with an impressive 51-31 victory over 3A No. 2 Heritage Hall (4-3). They competed at the Mid America Nationals this weekend and took sixth. They have six ranked wrestlers, two State Qualifiers, and one placer. 

The Broncos will return to action Tuesday when they host No. 5 Yukon (2-0).

No. 11 Dual/Tournament Edmond Memorial Bulldogs

The Bulldogs (0-2) had one of the toughest schedules in the State, starting with 3A No. 1 Perry (2-0) and No. 4 Yukon (2-0). They fell 50-19 to the Maroons and 38-34 to the Millers. At the Perry Tournament they took eighth place with four placers and one finalist. Memorial has five ranked wrestlers and two State Qualifiers.

The Dogs will return to action Tuesday when they host unranked Muskogee (0-3), then will take on unranked Putnam City (4-0) Thursday before competing in the Norman Tournament this weekend. 

No. 12 Dual, No. 14 Tournament Jenks Trojans

Jenks (1-0) rolled over unranked Muskogee (0-3) 60-20 in their season opener, then placed ninth at the Bristow Tournament. They have two ranked wrestlers and one State Qualifier. 

The Trojans will return to action in their home tournament after the new year.

No. 13 Dual, No. 12 Tournament Norman North Timberwolves

Norman North (1-2) had a rough start with a 52-24 loss to No. 14 Deer Creek (1-3), snapped back with a 48-18 win at 5A No. 16 Noble (0-3), then fell 36-34 to No. 7 Westmoore (2-0), then placed eleventh at the Mid America Nationals. The Timberwolves have five ranked wrestlers and three State Qualifiers, all of whom placed.

They will return to action on the 29th at the Cimarron Memorial Spartan Duals Tournament in Las Vegas. 

No. 14 Dual, No. 15 Tournament Bixby Spartans

Bixby (0-0) began their season last weekend at the Mid America Nationals where they placed eighteenth. The Spartans have three ranked wrestlers, two State Qualifiers, and one placer. 

Their dual season will begin after the new year when they host unranked Muskogee (0-3).

No. 15 Dual Owasso Rams

The Rams (1-1) won their season opener 56-18 over unranked Muskogee (0-3), but were hammered 62-6 by No. 2 Sand Springs (1-0). They placed eleventh at Perry with three placers. The Rams have five ranked wrestlers.

They will return to action Tuesday when they take on 5A No. 6 Claremore (1-0) and No. 7 Union (0-0).

No. 13 Tournament Deer Creek Antlers

The Antlers (1-3) slipped out of the Dual rankings after dropping three-straight, but took third place at their own tournament to remain in the Tournament rankings. After topping No. 10 Norman North (1-2) 52-24, they fell 60-15 to No. 1 Choctaw (1-0), 42-31 to No. 7 Westmoore (2-0), and 42-18 to No. 6 Edmond North (2-0). They have seven ranked wrestlers, two State Qualifiers, and one placer.

The Antlers will return to action Tuesday at No. 8 Stillwater (1-1).
