City of Sand Springs Renames Downtown "Box District" After Montie Box

The Sand Springs City Council passed a unanimous resolution Monday renaming the former downtown Triangle District as the “Box District” in honor of Montie Box.

Below is the decree:

WHEREAS, The City of Sand Springs seeks to identify the downtown area as a unique district in our City in order to bring attention to the area and foster an environment conducive to growth; and

WHEREAS, the previous moniker given to this area as The Triangle District has not been acted upon or used in a deliberate manner; and

WHEREAS, Montie R. Box has been directly involved in the progress and prosperity of the Sand Springs community for more than 90 years of citizenship and The City of Sand Springs wishes to promote an environment of positivity and advocacy that he is exemplary of; and

WHEREAS, Sand Springs’ City government has benefited from the willingness of Montie R. Box to serve as an elected freeholder to prepare the City’s charter, and as a member of the Airport Advisory Board and the Personnel Board, and his advocacy for the Gilcrease Bridge east of Sand Springs; and

WHEREAS, The Sand Springs community has benefited from Montie R. Box’s dedication of time, talents, and resources to benefit worthy entities such as the Salvation Army, Sand Springs Rotary, Sand Springs American Legion, United Methodist Church, Junior Achievement , Sand Springs Chamber of Commerce, Tulsa Boys Home, and the Sand Springs Education Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Montie R. Box has worked tirelessly to promote Sand Springs regionally through service on the Tulsa County Fair Trust Authority, the Metropolitan Tulsa Chamber of Commerce, the Tulsa State Fair FFA Livestock Auction, the Council of Indian Nations Chambers, Vision 2025 Board, and as a Tulsa Community College Regent; and

WHEREAS, The honesty and integrity of Montie R. Box in his real estate and insurance business dealings, and in his community service endeavors, have earned him numerous awards and honors from his business peers and those in the community he has served. His service to our Country through the U.S. Naval Reserve and U.S. Army during the Korean conflict; and

WHEREAS, Montie R. Box continually demonstrates his sincere commitment to Sand Springs and the benefit of its citizens through his wisdom and vision and living up to his reputation as “Mr. Sand Springs”.

NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, hereby resolves that the area from the North side of the HWY 64/412 from the west curb line of Garfield Avenue to the east curb line of Lincoln Avenue, extending north to the adjacent properties north of Broadway between Garfield Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, be regarded as The Box District in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
