CPHS Basketball: Sandites top Jenks 65-52 on Senior Night, Savage scores 25

University of Central Oklahoma-committed senior Colt Savage scored 25 points to lead the Class 6A No. 10 ranked Charles Page High School boys' basketball team (15-6, 8-5) Tuesday night at the Ed Dubie Field House. The home team overcame a rough start and first-quarter deficit to hand Jenks (8-14, 3-10) a 65-52 loss on Sandite Senior Night.

The unranked Trojans jumped out to an 8-0 lead with a handful of offensive rebounds and a pair of steals before Savage got the Sandites on the scoreboard. Eli Harris scored six en rout to a 10-2 lead before the Sandites found their mojo.

Cole Durkee drilled a three, Savage scored five more, and the Sandites trailed 13-10 to start the second quarter. The Trojans pushed their advantage to 23-16 before Savage hit a two and Durkee scored eight-straight to end the half with back-to-back threes and back-to-back free throws.

The third period was another Sandite win as they pushed their lead to 43-38, but the Trojans actually tied it up at 35-all midway through before Savage went on a five-point run. Ike Houston made a free throw and Jalen Woods hit a three, but Durkee closed out the period with a three-point play.

The game stayed close through most of the fourth until Cale Savage got hot with seven of his nine points in the final minutes. The Sandites ended on a six-point run to notch their second victory of the season over the Trojans.

Colt Savage led all scorers, followed by Durkee with sixteen points and a team-high eight rebounds. Three Trojans made double digits. Harris and Blake Seacat posted twelve apiece, closely followed by Woods with eleven.

Sand Springs will return to action Friday at 8:00 p.m. when they wrap up Frontier Valley Conference play at 5A No. 10 Bishop Kelley (10-11, 4-9), who they previously defeated 45-44 in the season-opener. The Trojans will travel to No. 13 Sapulpa (13-9, 5-8) to try and avenge an 84-70 January loss. Jenks and Sand Springs will meet again on the 23rd in the first round of the Regional Playoffs at Putnam City West.
