CPHS Wrestling: Sandites throttle Bixby 75-6 with eight pins

The Class 6A No. 5 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (13-3) secured their biggest win of the year at Tuesday night’s Homecoming dual, recording eight pins in a 75-6 rout of Bixby (0-10).

Brendon Wiseley (13-7, 14-7) received a forfeit at 106, Carter Young (33-1) pinned Aidan Kirkland in 39 seconds, and Seth Jones (23-12, 25-15) pinned Jacob Burdette in 23 seconds for an 18-0 lead.

Blake Sargent (10-4, 99-29) took on Ainsley Lane in the only match of the night that went the distance. He recorded a takedown in the first period and a reversal in the second. He spent most of the match working on a pin before changing strategy midway through the third and trying to score points. He scored two more takedowns in the final minute but was held to a 10-3 decision.

Irwin Portillo (25-16, 31-21) restarted the pinning streak, finishing off Gavin Southern in 1:10. Scott Patton (23-16, 30-18) pinned Braden Bickle in 1:23, Colby Heckencamp (3-4) pinned Derek VanDyke in 2:58, Chris Kirby (17-6) pinned Ryan Statler in 24 seconds, Kaleb Tabor (20-10) pinned Christian Brylewski in 1:25, and Dayvon Taylor (17-17) pinned Andrew Plumlee in 2:42.

Chad Moore picked up the only points of the night for Bixby by receiving a forfeit at 182. Josh Fincannon (10-4) received a forfeit at 195, Gage Fain (16-7, 55-45) received a forfeit at 220, and Robert Parrish (3-11) received a forfeit at heavyweight to end the night.

The dual was the last of the year for Bixby, who will return to action at the Regional Tournament Friday the 16th in Broken Arrow.

The Sandites will travel to Firelake Arena in Shawnee this Friday to take on No. 4 Mustang (18-3) at 6:00 p.m. in the Dual State Championship quarterfinals. The Sandites are the defending Dual State Champions and won 25 straight duals before falling 43-25 to No. 1 Broken Arrow (9-1) in January.
